C.S. Lewis (1898-1963), Christian author and scholar, was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He adopted the name "Jack" as a young boy, which is how he was known to his friends and acquaintances. Although Lewis' primary vocation was as a tutor of medieval literature at Oxford and Cambridge, he is especially remembered for his works of Christian apologetics and imaginative fiction. His Chronicles of Narnia series, in particular, has been extremely popular with children and adults alike.
